It's my pleasure. So tell me a little bit more about what you do and why you do it.

The Hound Healer is really about showing pet parents that there's an alternative way to go, rather than just always going to the vet and always listening to exactly what the vet says. I would never tell anybody don't go to your vet, because vets are valuable. But what I'm teaching pet parents is about the value of good nutrition and healing, as well as the basics of homeopathy, which is a 300-year-old natural, do no harm, yet powerful healing modality. And we're having tremendous successes with our, with my students, which is very exciting.

And I'm going to guess that when they take this more natural approach that it probably saves money over the vet bills. Would that be accurate?
Jody Miller-Young 02:20
That would be exactly right. So that's something that definitely, yes, it's something that definitely comes up for pet parents a lot, especially these days. And while pet parents who love their pets as much as you and I do, Rennie, they will do anything for them. We will . . . saving money while not skimping on care, but actually improving care and helping with longevity and vibrancy in life is a no-brainer.

Yeah. No, that makes so much sense. Now, because I donate 100% of the profits from the work I do to charity and I know there's a charity you support. Tell me about what they do.

I support Abandoned Pet Rescue. And they are local to me here in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. They are a 25 year old shelter that has helped tens of thousands of dogs and cats and occasionally bunnies and other things that they've taken in. They rely solely on the generosity of donors like you and me - they don't get anything from the city- and they are beautiful people doing beautiful work.

That's almost identical to Shelter to Soldier where the dogs are rescued from environments where they could be euthanized, and they don't receive any government funding. And it's all through donations that the soldiers who could have committed suicide end up served by getting a service dog. I was going to say that it's obvious who your target market is, it's the people who really care about their pets and they're open to natural healing modalities. What was your biggest failure, though? Whether it was personal or business?
Jody Miller-Young 04:24
Failure? I don't know if I look at anything as a failure because hopefully you learn from everything.

Uh huh.
Jody Miller-Young 04:31
But I think a misgiving is that it took me so so long to get to this place. You know, when I was a little kid, I wanted to be a vet. And I was the one who would be rescuing the kitty cats from the trees and putting them in my parents car in the garage until I had the courage to tell them that I had a kitty cat in the car. So I've loved animals from as far back as I can remember. But I went through many incarnations, as a publicist in New York City, as you know, in the design space, in so many different areas, until I arrived here, putting two things together that I love so much, which is natural medicine and animals. So that's a misgiving. But everything else is a learning because in homeopathy, yes, you have to learn what it's about, yes, you have to learn how to identify symptoms and how to match those symptoms to the right remedy. But sometimes it's trial and error to hone in on the exact remedy. So I and any other person, including 30+, 40+ year holistic veterinarians have had failures when it comes to trying remedies and it just doesn't work. It won't do any harm, but it doesn't do the good that you want it to. But then you go to your next choice, and then you hit on the right one. And it's like magic happening. So . . .

And I want to emphasize what you're saying. There are no failures, there are learning experiences. And what you had done in the past brought you to where you are now.

Yes, exactly.

What are the typical feelings that your prospects experience in terms of working with you, or mistakes that they've made? Or give me some case studies?
Jody Miller-Young 06:21
Okay, so well, to sort of answer the first part of your question first. They generally come to me because they're frustrated. They have an issue. They want their babies, well. They want their babies to live as long as possible. And they're either frustrated by what the vet has given them, which either hasn't worked or has stopped working. Or they search online, they just see so many different options, and their eyes roll back in their head because they don't know what to choose.

So when they take my course, they feel empowered, because the knowledge that I give them, and walk through with them - because I get very involved with my students - allows them to take back control of their pets health and their health. Because the basics of homeopathy are the exact same for pets as people. So they're now able to, they know how to take their pets case. They know how to find the right remedy. They know the process to go through, and they start having successes. So for example, on the nutrition front alone, because I also teach my students what good nutrition looks like. Two students in my most recent class, one had a dog with chronic ear infections. When she changed her dog's diet based on what I recommended, they disappeared and haven't come back. Another, her dog had eye issues and low vitality. The vitality went way up, the eye issues disappeared, have not come back. I've had students who've had their own successes. Another one of my students had an eye issue.

But the student - her or his self.

Yes, and she did her case and tried the remedy that she really felt strongly about. And within 10 minutes, her eye issues started disappearing. And she took another couple of doses based on the way I taught her and other issues, symptoms started disappearing. So she was over the moon. I had another client who texted me the other day saying that her dog Max, who had digestive issues - chronic - that would manifest in red, red, red paw pads. That's unusual. Not every dog with the stomach issues does that. So she did the research based on what she learned. We actually do a case through my course. You know, you pick a case for your pet and we do it. And Max, the redness went away, the digestive issues have resolved, and her dog with this chronic problem is on the road to recovery. Now Max may have another flare up, but she now knows the remedy to give him and she'll give him another dose at the flare up. And hopefully it will react the same way again. Things will subside. So this is the beauty of homeopathy when you match the remedy to the symptoms and that individual, the symptoms disappear.

Well I'm going to want to talk to you outside of our interview, because I have been giving one of my dogs eardrops twice a week, oh for years, because of issues he has that I would like to see dealt with with a more natural approach.
Jody Miller-Young 10:03
Yes, I would love that, Rennie. But what I'd like, what that does beg, is a comment that one of the reasons why pharmaceuticals, whether they're eardrops, or you know, pill or whatever that you get from the vet are the not preferred route to go is because most of the time, almost all of the time, it's either going to be what's called a palliative or a suppressive solution. Palliative means as soon as you stop the drops, the problem recurs. suppressive means the problem may disappear, but the imbalance, the internal imbalance that's caused the problem is still there. You have just plugged up that avenue of release, like the pressure cooker, with the steam coming out on the pot. You've plugged that up. So now, the imbalance your body needs, the body needs to find another way to release the pressure, and it goes a little deeper. And it's in suppressing over and over again, as it goes deeper and deeper with different and other drugs, over years that you get things like cancer, or kidney disease, or liver disease or brain disease or heart disease. Because it's now gone deeper and deeper and deeper to more serious and important organs and systems.

So that's important for your listeners to know that, you know, those suppressive drugs, they do have a fallout over time.

Well, I'm glad we're having this interview for my own pets, because I never thought of the idea of something being suppressive. In other words, his issue is just being hidden, as opposed to being solved.
Jody Miller-Young 11:49
Exactly.

Not for homeopathy - to learn homeopathy - which is the crux of what I do. But there are publications like Dogs Naturally magazine, which does a great job in educating pet parents about more holistic approaches. But I would really encourage and be honored for your listeners to get in touch and check out what they could learn from taking my course. Because it will give them skills that they'll have for the rest of their lives. And it will help lengthen the lives of their dog or cat and give them a more vibrant, healthier life.

That the trend is today towards more holistic healing, because we've seen both for ourselves and for our pets, the downsides of pharmaceuticals, endless pharmaceuticals. There are many different methods of complimentary healing. What I want to put out there to your listeners is seek it out for both yourself, your family and your pets, because you'll find the more and more you educate yourself, that the more power you'll have in taking back control of your own health and the health of the animals that you love so much. Yeah.

And I was going to say, what it sounds like is that they just need to discover the options that they have at their fingertips. And learn more about homeopathy and how good nutrition is probably a better alternative than pharmaceuticals.

Well, good nutrition is a main, main point of any good health. And homeopathy is a modality that can help heal issues, whether it's first aid issues, or whether it's, you know, skin issues to cancer. It has helped all of it. So it's a wonderful tool and a powerful tool to have in your toolkit. Yes,
