Rennie Gabriel  00:09
Hi folks, welcome to Episode 85 of the Wealth On Any Income Podcast. This is where we talk about money tips, techniques, attitudes, information, and provide inspiration around your business and your money. I'm your host, Rennie Gabriel. In past episodes, we spoke about how to build an Income and Expense Report, how to measure the level of pleasure based on where you spend your money, how to track your money in 5 - 10 seconds, what to look for on a net worth statement to see how close you are to Complete Financial Choice®, and how to create your own unique selling proposition. Last week, we had Attorney Charles Dobens, who was a real estate investor, educator and mentor speaking about buying your first multi-unit property. And today we have as our guest, Liam Austin. Liam is the co-founder of Entrepreneurs HQ (Headquarters), and a virtual event strategist, having launched over 15 virtual summits, dozens of quick workshops, hosting over 400 speakers, while educating 100,000+ business owners throughout his programs. Liam is also the creator of the Million Dollar Virtual Summit program, where he partners with select clients to generate seven-figure sales. And his workshops make it easy for you to create your own high impact virtual events. Liam, welcome.

Liam Austin  01:44
Rennie, thanks very much for inviting me along. Excited to be chatting with you today.

Rennie Gabriel  01:49
Terrific. Well, let's get right to it with some questions. I think people have a good idea of what you do from your bio. But why are you doing it?

Liam Austin  01:57
Yeah, sure. So, my partner, Sarah, in life and in business, we met back in 2014. She was studying at university. And she was from Sweden, and her visa was running out. And we're like, 'All right, how are we going to make this work? Your family's in Sweden. I'm in Australia.' Well, we'll generate income online via creating an online business. And that was really the motivator, the driver behind why we started this business running events to impact people's lives. Prior to 2014-15, I was running offline events. I used to run the International Trade Awards across the UK. So for several years, we had Royal Bank of Scotland, HSBC, come on board as sponsors for those events. And I was just taking that approach to virtual events where we've managed to have over 100,000 people attend our workshops, and our conferences, and summits. All completely online, with a couple of hundrend countries in the world attending, which is pretty, pretty cool. To have that and then just impacting people around the world, helping them grow their business, generate more leads and sales online.

Rennie Gabriel  03:16
Terrific. Okay. Well, now, one of the important things is because I donate 100% of the profits from the work I do, teaching other people how to handle money powerfully and also become philanthropic. Is there a particular cause that you support?

Liam Austin  03:34
Well, yeah. I'm a man of the world. Like my partner is in Sweden. We live in Europe. My family's in Australia. I'm in Australia right now. And a big part of growing up in Australia was the beach, the ocean. I love to surf. In Malta, we live in an island there. So we're surrounded by water. And I'm part of a lot of surf communities, ocean swims, sea kayaking, and a lot of those groups that I'm part of, we organize cleanup days. So clean up the ocean, clean up the sea, clean up the beach, and so I'm donating my time regularly to go and just make sure we removing the plastics and damaging pollutants from that natural environment.

Rennie Gabriel  04:16
Oh, thank you. Yeah, 'cause that's an important thing to be doing and I want to thank you, Liam, for doing that. Who are your target markets?

Liam Austin  04:26
Yeah. Typically, it's anyone who has a dream of, Yeah, how do I make money online? I suppose like, that's how I started. But typically our ideal perfect-fit clients are people who want to be seen as the go-to expert in their niche. They want people to see them as the authority and will decide to choose them whenever they need a solution or have a pain that needs to be exterminated. So, we run these virtual events to build your email list and audience and your authority with that audience. So that audience sees you as the go-to expert. And then it's so much easier now to just enroll them into your products, services, online coaching programs, your courses, consulting, whatever that may be. But typically, that's what we're doing. We're building your authority, your audience via the virtual events to easily enroll people and get more clients.

Rennie Gabriel  05:25
Makes a lot of sense. Now, you know, there are very few people I talk to, and myself included, whose success was a straight line process. What would you say your biggest failure may have been, whether it was personal or business?

Liam Austin  05:41
When we started off running these virtual events, we were bringing in experts. We've had over 400 successful online entrepreneurs share their strategies, their journey leads and sales online with our community, which has been awesome. And it took over three years for me to actually share my knowledge and expertise with the world. Like how do I get . . . how do we book 10k sponsors for our events? How do we get over 100,000 people to our events? Like, what is that methodology? So we launched our online course in 2018. So it took us three years to teach how we're running these events and share that knowledge with the world. And that was too long. I wasted a bit more time thinking, Oh, am I good enough? Will people listen to me? Do I really have something to teach? And, of course I did. Right? I had over 100,000 people that I'd managed to drive into my business. And people wanted to learn how they could generate that type of lead source for their own business, for their own authority to sell their own, you know, courses and programs. So that was a big mistake. But it also kind of took us a long time to launch our high-ticket program, which we only launched in 2020. So it took us another two years after the online course launch, because the online course, people were saying, 'Yeah, this is great, this is awesome'. And still there was a bit of imposter syndrome for me. And then they wanted more time to learn the system and generate more leads and sales for themselves. So we launched our group coaching program, our year long program. And that was 2020. And we'd started in 2015. So it's like five, six years, for us to actually launch a program where we could actually help our clients in a group setting. And even there's some one-on-one stuff in there to help them get results. And that's meant I've really been able to connect with individuals, help them grow their business over an extended period of time versus just these events, which were, you know, 90 minutes up to, you know, a few days in length. And really you don't see the whole journey. And that's been really fulfilling for me.

Rennie Gabriel  07:38
Great. But let me ask this then. So it took five years to finally launch your year-long program. And three years before you could feel confident enough to teach this stuff. What was your biggest insight from that?

Liam Austin  07:54
Don't wait too long. Like, don't feel like you're not good enough. Everyone has, you know, something to teach, knowledge to share with the world. If you feel like you're a teacher, you feel like you want to be seen as the authority, that go-to expert in the world. The best way to do that is to share your insights, your knowledge, your expertise, with your audience, so that they can understand that, Hey, you are the number one expert or one of the top experts in your niche, in your market, in your local area, whatever it may be. So that people will decide, You know what, I love, Rennie. I love your system. And I want to work with you further. Let's have a conversation about working together into the future and becoming a client. So don't hold back. Just get started with it. If you're a little bit camera shy or not sure that you are an expert, just jump in and try it out. Do a little test and just say, Hey, I'm going to be sharing this, and see the feedback and results. Because with the hundreds of clients that we've taught through our programs, like most of the time, like 99.9% of the time, you're getting positive feedback. It motivates you, gets you excited to continue on that path.

Rennie Gabriel  09:03
Got it. Yeah. So yeah, if you do it, then you can have some feedback to create the improvements.

Liam Austin  09:09
Exactly.

Rennie Gabriel  09:10
So what would you say the common mistakes are that your prospects make in this area?

Liam Austin  09:14
Yeah, just the hesitation. I think of like, Well, is this really for me? Can I do it? Is it possible for me? And it's a matter of just going out there and giving it a shot. Give it a try. Like, you know, you'll never know unless you give it a try. So I think it's that hesitation of, 'Well, is this possible for me? Can I do it?' And you can start really, really small. And you know, we did these multi-day multi-speaker events where we're getting like 10,000+ people to, but we also run events where we get like half a dozen or a dozen people or a few dozen people to that 90-minute workshop, where we're teaching just one quick win, one really simple, quick win to get a result within those, that 90-minute period. And everyone has something that they can teach. Typically what the method with this is like we're teaching something within 5 to 10 minutes, explaining it. And we're spending the remaining part of the 90-minute workshop actually helping them take action, implement those steps, so that they actually can walk away having completed and got that result, that quick win from the workshop. And if you're able to do that, with, you know, half a dozen or a dozen people, they've got a result from you. And they're like, 'Wow, Rennie is awesome. Like, I've been seeing all these other gurus, and they've been talking about all these results that they've been able to get, but I don't know whether it can work for me. I just spent 90 minutes with Rennie and he got me that result. Like I know, Rennie can get me results. I want to continue working with you, Rennie.' Let's have a discussion about working together for the next 90 days, or nine months.

Rennie Gabriel  10:53
Whatever. Do you have an example, what I would call a case study of a specific coach or business owner, entrepreneur, that you worked with, and like, where they started and where they ended up?

Liam Austin  11:06
Yeah, I'll give you a quick example of one that I really like to share, which is our three referrals in three minutes. It's a workshop that we've run in the past, it's something that I can, I can teach in three minutes. It's just sharing my screen on LinkedIn. And I can show people how to get three referrals from their network within three minutes. Super easy to do. And then we've got like, if it's a 90-minute workshop, we've got what, 87 minutes to actually help people going through this process themselves, to answer any questions that they have, and actually get those three referrals, or actually do at least some of the outreach within that 90 minutes. And then they've got a strategy, a system to go and get three referrals every single day, with just three minutes of their time. Super-simple, super-quick. And that's an ideal scenario for one of these quick workshop wins. And so we help people to decide what the topic could be, and how we could promise a specific result, a quick win within that timeframe. And as well as like, creating, like a title that really stands out for people, makes it feel like, 'Yeah, that's the kind of quick win that I want.' So there's those kind of, that's the kind of style that we want to go for. We've had clients run these quick workshops, where they'll get just like a dozen people there. And they'll get from that one or two paying clients like paying them 5, 10, even up to $25,000 from that 90-minute workshop, because you've gotten that quick win. You've built the relationship with them. They know, like, and trust you. They see you as an authority, and they're ready to continue working with you. So that happens quite often, quite frequently. And then there's the other end of the scale, where we work with Migraine World Summit. Carl, the host there, came to me a number of years ago now, and I suggested, 'Hey, maybe you should try doing one of these events for yourself.' And I told him my system. And now he has over 100,000 people coming to his event. So these are migraine sufferers. And if you have migraines, you'll know that staring at a screen, turning up to a virtual event, you know, Zoom fatigue, like it hurts. It gives you a headache.

Rennie Gabriel  13:17
Yeah.

Liam Austin  13:18
But the thing is, with virtual events, if you've got a strong enough promise, and your audience has that pain, and the pain is strong enough, then they will show up to get that results because they want to eliminate that pain or specifically get the outcome and benefits from what you're teaching at your event. So, morally the lesson is, there's no such thing really as Zoom fatigue, just you don't have a strong enough promise, and you're not targeting the right audience.

Rennie Gabriel  13:45
I like it. No such thing as Zoom fatigue. Well, we're coming near the end. But so let me ask you this, is there a valuable free resource that you can direct people to that will further help them, if this is what they want to do?

Liam Austin  14:03
Yeah, quickworkshopwin.com. There's a free checklist there that will describe how to run one of these 90-minute workshops to get yourself clients. It's a full checklist with loads of details on the exact steps you need to take to run one of these events for yourself within seven days. Remember, we're just teaching something, you know, 5-10 minutes. Remember that three referrals in three minutes? It should be something you can teach really quickly. You don't have to spend much time at all creating the content because you create the content teaching 5 - 10 minutes and then you're helping people implement, answering questions within that 90 minutes. So the seven days is actually spent marketing. How do I get a dozen people or a few dozen people to attend this event and actually pay for it as well? So you're getting paid, you're getting qualified leads for that workshop and can lead into your back-end offers. So your courses, your coaching, program, consultancy services, other products, whatever it may be. So quickworkshopwin.com You get that free checklist. And then if you want to go even deeper, dive into how to run one of these things, we've got actually the Quick Workshop Win program. And you can purchase that there as well for under $100.

Rennie Gabriel  15:11
Sounds great. So, yeah, they get a full checklist on how to do this for themselves. And I'll put that in the show notes. So people can just click on the link from the show notes and get there. Is there one question that I should have asked you, that would also give some great value to my listeners?

Liam Austin  15:29
So for me, it is that self-doubt. Like, am I nervous speaking on stage... a lot of our speakers just pre-record a training or an interview until I get more comfortable about going live. And that's cool. That's okay. That's how I started with my first event in 2015. I pre-recorded 35 sessions for our LinkedIn Success Summit. And you can still see that now. It's all evergreen. And these evergreen events out there are generating leads and sales for us every day. We've done 15 summits. They're all on-demand, accessible out there. Now we've got a couple of dozen workshops, these 90-minute workshops, that are out there on-demand. You can access them at any time. You don't have to wait, two, three weeks before it's live, and it's happening in person. You can get instant gratification to get your results and outcomes or eliminate those pains straightaway. So really, I suppose it comes down to a quote by Wayne Gretzky, which is you miss 100% of the shots you don't take. So go out there, take the shot and at least you've got a chance of scoring that point.

Rennie Gabriel  16:31
Great. Liam, thank you for being on the show.

Liam Austin  16:36
No worries - this has been good fun.
